Traditional Uses

Actions: Cleanses liver, clears vision, dispels wind-heat, promotes defecation

Applications: Liver heat, headache, optic atrophy, cataract, hyperemia, ocular swelling and pain

Pharmacology

(1) Hypotensive effect: The aqueous and ethanol extracts decrease the blood pressure of anesthetized cats, dogs, and rabbits.

(2) Antifungal effect: The aqueous extract restrains the proliferation of various dermatophytes.

(3) Effect on the vision: Carotin benefits vision.
